Alan Hollander

A native of New York City, Alan Hollander has had a life-long passion for fine arts. He attended the School of Visual Arts in NYC. His teachers included Brice Marden, Miles Forst, Jack Potter, Cora Wright Kennedy and many others.  Hollander has made a career as an art director and graphic designer in New York, Massachusetts and Texas.

As a young man, Hollander had a one-man show of his early paintings at the Hernandez Gallery located in the Soho area of Manhattan. He also had an exhibition at the Forbes Gallery in Northampton, Massachusetts.

After going on a fine arts hiatus for many years in order to pursue a graphic arts career, work as a partner in The Tequila Group, a South Texas advertising agency, be involved with his children and pursue music, Hollander began painting again in 2014, further exploring the creative vision he began in the late 70s in Western Massachusetts. The creative challenge is a pursuit that Hollander finds invigorating.

Hollander’s paintings are in collections throughout the United States.

Artist Statement

The paintings — although inspired by my years in the graphic arts community, the Bauhaus movement and Russian Constructivism — speak in my individual voice.

My artistic quest is one of inner discovery. A visual poetry. Choosing to avoid sociological or political subject matter, my paintings strive to explore a personal vocabulary. They are statements of form and balance.

Music has always been a passion of mine. Notes and the weaving of musical patterns, especially found in jazz and baroque music, form in my mind’s eye as shape, line and color that I manifest on stretched canvas, forming my individual visual expression.

My intention is that the rhythm and cadence of my paintings draw the viewer in and touch them, perhaps not in a way that can be described, but felt, because the communication of unspoken perception is at the core of my art.
